Marion Mathews is the owner of the bridal shop The White Room as well as a new venture in space-saving children’s furniture, “Ann & Barry”, and wholesale agent in the UK and Ireland for Spanish bridal designer Jesus Peiro. She is also the mother of two boys Ronan, 3 and Aonghus, 2. Married to Paddy Mathews, she lives in Mullingar and as the only girl among three brothers is destined to live in a family unit as the only girl!

Because I am a Girl I ask….too many questions.

Because I am a Girl I believe…I am able to do anything boys can but in a different way.

Because I am a Girl I hope…that at some stage in the future women everywhere can have the opportunities in life that I have.

Because I am a Girl I wonder…why I am so hard on myself.

Because I am a Girl I dream…of me time

Because I am a Girl I remember…that I am incredibly fortunate to live at this time, I never would have survived in Ireland 100 years ago! I can vote, I can have a career even though I have children , I can truly be independent.

Because I am a Girl I like…old fashioned chivalry, door opening, seat giving……I don’t believe men and women are equal, we are gloriously different, equally as capable of succeeding but different.

Because I am a Girl I dislike…negativity, more than anything else. Sometimes I think we all forget how far we have come and how incredibly privileged we are.

Because I am a Girl I feel…incredibly lucky to have had the painful privilege of giving birth to my two healthy children. I probably didn’t say this at the time but in hindsight I wouldn’t swap the experience for the world.

Because I am a Girl I…feel empowered by the other women in business I have met over the last few years. Their strength, resilience and honesty has inspired me to keep going when times were tough.
