Because I am a Girl I ask… for compassion for all people.

Because I am a Girl I believe… in the transforming, enduring power of love.

Because I am a Girl I hope… for happiness and serenity and a world of peace, fairness and justice.

Because I am a Girl I wonder… what way our world will be in the next millennium.

Because I am a Girl I dream… that my beloved girls will have lives filled with happiness, purpose and love.

Because I am a Girl I remember… how hard our sisters fought to get basic equal rights.

Because I am a Girl I like… art, literature, romance, beauty and men.

Because I am a Girl I dislike… violence, abuse, cruelty, vulgarity and unkindness.

Because I am a Girl I feel… very strongly that women of all ages, races and religions should be treated with equality, dignity and respect.

Because I am a Girl I feel… blessed to have been born in Dublin in the 20th century to wonderful parents who gave me an abundance of love and a wonderful education.

  • Because I am a Girl...

I have a much higher chance of making headline news - as a victim of rape, assault or murder. But because I am a girl I have the innate strength to carry on challenging the threats to my freedom.

  • Because I am a Girl...

I rise to the challenge, and do the unexpected. I raise my voice so that I can always be heard. I push myself even when the little voices in my head are saying, sure you dont belong here, who do you think you are. I struggle on and dont alllow society to to label or box me because of the sex I am, the colour of my skin, my sexuality, my spiritual beliefs. I am, and I will.
